For my last experiment, I looked at how players identify with fictional characters, and whether they identify more strongly with a character of the same gender:
      https://www.bps.org.uk/news-and-policy/men-identify-fictional-characters-both-genders

      I found interesting results:
      – males identify equally with characters of either gender
      – females do identify more strongly with female characters.

However, what’s unclear is whether the gender identity is a special case in this regard. For example, suppose a character was a teacher. Would female teachers identify more strongly with them (because of the shared identity) and male teachers not? I want to design an experiment to test this in detail to see how the results of my last experiment generalise.

This is what experimental science is about – you come up with a a hypothesis based on a theory, test to see if it’s true, try to figure out what the results might mean, then plan your next experiment.
