Not at all! I spent a week working on an in house publication (like mini newspaper) at a bank. My Dad worked at the bank and was able to get me in to do some work experience. It was really relevant as I always planned to go to uni to study English Literature and I wanted to become a journalist. I did go to uni to do English Lit but then very quickly swapped to psychology. I now realise how lucky I was to be able to do that and it was only because I had psych A level and had chosen my elective (free) modules in psycholgy. The rest is history as they say!

I did some work experience in a magistrate’s court, so not relevant. When I was in school psychology was not a subject they offered and no one discussed it with me. I thought about doing either law or computer science at uni, and went for computer science (which is the theory end of computer). My interest in concepts in artificial intelligence did contribute to me eventually finding my way into psychology.

Whilst I was at school I worked in a local supermarket and post office. Not directly leading to psychology but loads of related skills in being in a people focused role. Team working, customer service, being confident to make a judgement on I’d age. I also worked in schools voluntarily so this led to my interest in applying psychology within education.
